I started gambling as a teenager, going to casinos with my family. It was just fun — the lights, the energy, the thrill of winning a little. In college it was blackjack. Nothing crazy. Then COVID hit, and I discovered online casinos. Online slots were my downfall. What started as killing time during lockdown turned into something I couldn't control. My losses are well into six figures.
When I finally decided to see the real number, I had to fight for it. I had to nag online bookies to send me my own history — most of them make it extremely difficult, and you often have to escalate the issue just to get someone's attention. It's honestly the last thing they want you to see. I added up every amount, year by year, and stared at a number that made me sick.
